Sacrificial lambs for the ultimate survival of humanity?

I will not now argue the pros and cons of whether the weapons should have been used. But I will give my personal opinion that the innocents on whom this attack fell can be considered the sacrificial lambs for the ultimate survival of humanity. If the weapons hadn't been used then, in the limited quantity they were used in, they might well have been used later and in vast enough quantity to end humanity on earth. It took a good long while for the whole world to absorb what happened at Hiroshima and Nagasaki and realize what that meant for modern warfare. The attack was an unambiguous, fully public, "live" demonstration of exactly what nuclear war would mean.
